Location
Snape
Snape was originally a Roman village and is located on the river
Alde, about five miles up river from Aldeburgh on the Suffolk Coast.
Today it is best known as the venue for The Aldeburgh Festival,
located at the Snape Maltings, and home of year round cultural events,
from opera and concerts to dance, world music, poetry, jazz recitals
and lectures. There are also shops, galleries, river trips, restaurants
and a pub. Within the village itself, there are two more "gastro"
pubs, a village shop (that also rents out bicycles), and a garage.
The Minsmere RSBP bird reserve is only a few miles away (The Alde
River is also a reserve) and there are numerous wonderful walks
along the river Alde, and into the surrounding countryside. There
are 3 cinemas within easy reach of Snape, and any number of first
class pubs and restaurants.
